Energy arbitrage means buying electricity cheaply and selling or using it when prices are high. With a battery storage system, you can exploit daily price fluctuations.
The Principle: Buy Low, Use High
A typical arbitrage cycle looks like this:
- Charge at night: Fill battery at 5 ct/kWh
- Use in evening: Discharge at 35 ct/kWh
- Profit: 30 ct/kWh savings (spread)
Example: Commercial Battery 100 kWh
| Position | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Daily spread | 100 kWh × €0.30 = €30 |
| Monthly | €30 × 30 = €900 |
| Yearly | €900 × 12 = €10,800 |
Requirements for Arbitrage
- ✅ Dynamic electricity tariff with hourly/15-min pricing
- ✅ Battery storage (min. 20 kWh for commercial)
- ✅ Intelligent energy management system
- ✅ Access to day-ahead price data
